Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about Driink Water Bars, reverse osmosis water, TDS, hydration, or retail enquiries? This page gives simple answers for customers and store owners who want to understand how Driink Water Bars work.
What is a Driink Water Bar?
A Driink Water Bar is a purified water refill station placed in selected retail locations. Customers can refill their own bottles or containers with purified water, while the store offers a convenient everyday service.
How does Driink purify the water?
Driink uses a multi-stage purification process. This typically includes pre-filtration to reduce sediment and larger particles, activated carbon filtration to improve taste and reduce chlorine, reverse osmosis to reduce dissolved salts and impurities, and final treatment/polishing before customers refill.
The exact setup may vary by installation, but the goal is always the same: clean, safe, great-tasting purified water.
What is purified water?
The purified water in our Water Bars is reverse osmosis water, often called RO water. It has passed through a specialised RO membrane that helps reduce dissolved solids and other impurities from the incoming water, producing clean, low-TDS drinking water.
What does reverse osmosis remove from water?
Reverse osmosis helps reduce dissolved solids and many unwanted impurities from the incoming water, including certain chemicals, metals, salts and microscopic particles.
What is RO water made up of?
RO water is still water, but with much lower dissolved solids than typical municipal water. After purification, it is generally clean, low-TDS drinking water with fewer dissolved substances from the incoming water.
Do you add minerals back into the RO water?
Driink does not add minerals back into the RO water after purification.
Most people get the majority of their dietary minerals from food rather than drinking water. Typical drinking water may contribute only a small portion of daily mineral intake, although this varies depending on the water source.
Customers who prefer added minerals can add their own minerals or electrolytes according to personal preference.
Does RO water hydrate you?
RO water is still water and contributes to normal daily hydration.
As with any drinking water, people with specific health concerns should speak to a qualified healthcare professional.
What is TDS, and what TDS level does Driink aim for?
TDS stands for total dissolved solids. It is a measure of dissolved substances in water, usually shown in parts per million, or ppm.
Driink generally aims to keep RO water below 20 ppm TDS under normal operating conditions. Municipal water TDS varies by area and source, but in our experience it is commonly much higher than RO water and is often around 150–350 ppm, sometimes higher.
How do customers use the Water Bar?
Customers bring their own clean bottle or container, refill at the Water Bar, and follow the instructions displayed at the store.
The process is designed to make purified water refills simple, convenient, and affordable, while helping customers reuse bottles instead of sending more single-use plastic to landfill or into our waterways.
What are the main benefits for retailers?
A Driink Water Bar can help suitable retailers offer a useful everyday refill service, encourage repeat customer visits, support in-store activity, and give customers access to purified water on tap.
Each site is different, so the exact arrangement is discussed directly with Driink.
Does a Water Bar help reduce plastic waste?
A Water Bar can help customers reuse bottles and containers instead of buying single-use bottled water every time.
Over time, refill habits can help reduce the amount of single-use plastic sent to landfill or ending up in our environment and waterways.
